Weekend Recap

Edited to add that it’s been 7 days and Morris is up for adoption, thankfully I didn’t receive that phonecall.

Edited to add that I have decided to go to Niagara after all for the Friday night and leaving on Saturday evening, just because I’m not available for Sunday doesn’t mean I have to miss out on all the fun!  So if anyone out there needs a roomie let me know!

It’s freezing cold here on this holiday weekend in Brampton.  Seriously it feels more like a cold Thanksgiving Day weekend than spring.  This morning we took a drive out to the new house and the temperature outside was ONLY 9 degrees!!  Our house is partly framed.  They’re moving fast and hopefully the closing date will remain as September 11 and not pushed back.

Our current home though is not selling, yet.  Yesterday we had two more showings, one was a second viewing and the other couple that came stayed for almost a half hour.  Nothing yet.  I’m thinking that our area is over saturated with homes for sale.  If they don’t like ours there’s 20 more out there in the same area.   Crossing our fingers that we aren’t pushed down to the wire to sell.

A good friend of Joe’s is getting married this August.  Surprise surprise I received her bridal shower invitation in the mail on Friday.  It’s on July 20th.  The weekend of this.  I am torn now.  I was all set to go to Niagara that weekend and now this.  If she wasn’t such a good friend of my husband’s it wouldn’t be a big deal just to send a gift and not attend.  But she’s been a good friend to Joe and she’s been so sweet to Samantha that I can’t not go.  I have until July 1st to respond but I think the answer has to be yes.  I am so disappointed.

When I was in Florida I managed to lose another 3 pounds.  Mostly due to the fact that I did a lot of walking and swimming and I ate almost no sweets whatsoever and did not snack after 8.  I could see it in my thighs and bum they looked slimmer.  So I’m trying to keep up the same here.  The weekends though for snacking are the worst.  During the week at work it’s fairly easy.  I’m trying to eat better and make healthy food choices.  Can you believe my shock then when I checked out Tim Horton’s website for their nutritional components and discovered that the Whole Grain Raspberry muffin that I started eating each morning before I went away was worse in calories and saturated fats than my favourite chocolate glazed donut!!!  400 calories & 17 grams of fat compared to 260 calories and 10 grams!!! So I’ve switched to eating the low fat vanilla yogurt with berries. Much better choice with only 160 calories and 2 grams of fat.

I finished off the Healthy Eating Challenge and although I didn’t really lose weight because of it I did discover some new products that taste good and are a quick fix for when you’re in a hurry.  Lately we had the Shepherd’s Pie and the Roasted Vegetable Lasagna.  Both did not disappoint, although the sauce for the lasagna could be less ketchupy tasting.  Tomorrow night we’re having the Wild Mahi Mahi.  It looks good and perfect for the BBQ.

On a sad note but hopefully with a happy ending we had a cat living with us for a week. He showed up on the Saturday we arrived back from Florida and while Joe & I went to pick up our car from the Hamilton airport my mom fed him some cheese while she was outside in the backyard with Samantha.  Of course me the animal lover fed “Morris” (Joe named him) the entire week so he never left.  I was trying to convince Joe to agree to keep him but he wouldn’t budge.  There were no missing cat signs anywhere in the area.  He is such an affectionate cat but on Saturday we took him to the animal shelter.  Where they proceeded to tell us that he would have a 7 day trial period to see if he was suitable for adoption.  If he was not, meaning he was unable to get along with the other cats in the shelter or had a medical problem, he would be put down.  I started crying and I couldn’t stop until they reassured me that if that was going to be the decision they would call me and I would go and pick him up.  I feel so guilty for bringing him but once we started feeding him at home here I knew he wouldn’t leave and then when we moved I knew the new owners wouldn’t appreciate a cat living in the backyard.  So I’m waiting for the next 7 days, praying that the phone doesn’t ring and checking the website to see if they post his picture up.  So if anyone out there is looking for a two year old neutered male orange cat who is extremely affectionate please email me.

Morris, our one week cat He was very good with Samantha, they played out doors every day and she was in love.  I had to tell her that Morris went home to his Mommy. :(
