Please go to sleep now

Samantha is in a “Daddy” phase now, it’s Daddy all the time 24 7.  So while the 2 of them were on the couch around 8 tonite having milk I was on Facebook chatting with a girlfriend of mine.  I asked her what her 2 boys were doing.  They are 9 and 4.  What do you think these 2 boys were doing at 8pm??  Why they were sleeping, like most boys & girls are at that time.  Unlike my child, who as I am now writing this is finally asleep at 10pm.  I just cannot get her to sleep any earlier, unless I take her nap away.  Which when she’s home with me she fights the nap like crazy but tries to crash at 4pm and by 5 she’s pretty much a disaster.  So she still needs a nap.  At my mother in law’s during the day she tells my mil that it’s time for a nap and she goes to sleep for an hour.  Seriously I am at a loss on how to get her to sleep earlier.  She wakes up in the morning at 7am and not voluntarily either, so obviously an earlier bedtime would help in that department.  So anyone got any clues, tricks, hints, ideas??? I’m at a loss people.

  1. It’s 2am and I wish I could help but right now I’m dealing with my own (sick) non-sleeper.

It’s nights like this that make me think that having 1 kid is the way to go.

  2. You know what’s working for me right now (and as I type this, I have a sinking feeling that I’ve cursed myself…)? The Boy is starting to balk at naps, but I take him upstairs same as usual and tell him that it’s nap time. I then tell him he doesn’t have to sleep if he doesn’t want to, but it’s nap time so he must stay in his bed and have a “rest”. He will often sing or play for a bit, and then go to sleep on his own.

Hope that keeps working, or I’m dead meat.

  3. I don’t have alot of advice. Mouse (who is now 5) gave up her nap when she turned 2 and Bug (who is going to turn 3 soon) stopped napping last Fall. BUT….when both girls gave up their naps they were in bed by 7pm every night. I know what you mean about the 4-5pm mark where they are super cranky…that is still an issue for both girls.
Mouse has gotten into some sleeping issues right now, she doesn’t go to bed easily for me but that’s altogether a different story.
Hey, maybe she only needs a nap a few days a week…I know that when the girls were giving up their naps they did this.

  4. I wish I had some advice – I am hard pressed to get Graham in bed before 9!

He doesn’t have to get up until 8 but still…

Great chatting with you guys on Sat BTW – I think our hubbies got on pretty well!
